A general introduction on the background of the NL Foundation:

The Dawoodi Bohras are a worldwide community who profess Islam and are followers of al-Dai al-Mutlaq who guides and leads them to practice their faith in accordance with the principles of Islam.  The present al-Dai al-Mutlaq, His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS is the 53rd incumbent to the office of al-Dai al-Mutlaq.

With the encouragement and blessings of 52nd al-Dai al-Mutlaq His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed BurhanuddinRA and now 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq, a few Dawoodi Bohras made their homes in The Netherlands. Several of them came here to acquire knowledge for professional and career needs. Finding the country a land of opportunities and knowing the welcoming nature of the Dutch people, they subsequently settled and made their homes in the Netherlands.  As a tradition, a congregation of Dawoodi Bohras (Jamaat) evolved in the Netherlands knitting them together and thereby enabling them to secure their faith, customs, traditions and culture.  The administration of the said Jamaat was entrusted to an ad-hoc committee named as Anjuman-e-Ezzi.

With the passage of time, it was deemed expedient that a Foundation be established in accordance with the Dutch law to better administer, manage and organize the affairs of the Dawoodi Bohras residing in the Netherlands.  Thus, with the permission of 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq they established a Foundation by the name of Anjuman-e-Ezzi (The Netherlands).  The said Foundation was incorporated on 17th August 2018.

What is the goal and what are the activities of the NL Foundation and how do we plan to realize this goal?

The main goal of the Foundation is to better administer, manage and organise the affairs of the Dawoodi Bohras residing in the Netherlands. The activities of the Foundation are undertaken by the Board of management in such a manner so as to fulfil the goals of the Foundation.

Al-Dai al-Mutlaq is the spiritual leader and supreme head of Dawat-e-Hadiyah and its people the Dawoodi Bohra Community. The Religious Minister receives guidance and directions from al-Dai al-Mutlaq from time to time. He conveys the same to the followers residing in the Netherlands through various means, such as through congregations, through circulars, through phone-calls, through literature, through his and other religious personnel’s preaching. In doing so, he seeks assistance and services of the Board of management. The Board organizes congregations at the community center and see that the discipline is maintained. If need be, they attend to the individual needs of the community members. They organize congregational prayers particularly on Friday and on other important religious days and nights.

Niyaz (religious meals) are normally held at the community center. The Board maintains the community center and provides all facilities such as special trays, utensils, kitchen facilities etc. The Board supervises cooking and sees that the community center is properly cleaned and the utensils washed. If need be, the Board collects funds for arranging Niyaz.

Religious Ministers and emissaries play a very important role in the religious affairs of the community members through religious guidance and teaching. On special religious occasions and particularly during Ramadan and Moharram (10 days — religious retreat), they invite emissaries to whom they provide all basic comforts.

To fulfill the religious aspirations of the community members, it is the prime duty of the Foundation to have a community center and burial grounds. The Foundation will manage and maintain those through formation of various committees.

One of the teachings of Prophet MohammedSAW is to love the land of one’s abode and be faithful to it. In consonance with the teaching of Prophet Mohammed, the Foundation educates the members of the community to be good citizens of the Netherlands and be faithful to the Netherlands.

The Religious Minister is an expert in religious matters of marriage, divorce, inheritance, and other issues that could arise within the Dawoodi Bohra Community. He is therefore well-positioned to resolve disputes amongst the community members arising during marriage, divorce, inheritance, custody of children and at other times. The Foundation though individual free counselling amicably settles such disputes. Disputes may also arise in business ventures which are settled by professional businessmen amongst the Board.

The Foundation provides religious tutors and organizes classrooms for the adults. The Foundation also runs a Madrasah (religious school) for the children. The Foundation collects fees from the children and employs staff who are paid salary. The Foundation also provides books and maintains a small library of religious books. It also motivates and helps, through modern technology, to learn and memorize the holy book al-Quran.

The Foundation not only helps community members but also extends benefit to others by granting scholarships for education, establishing medical camps, giving free medical aid, etc. if funds permit.

Medical relief is provided by the Foundation either directly through the establishment of health programs and medical camps or through support of existing health programs.

The Foundation provides food, clothing and other basic amenities to the poor and needy.

For fulfilling the religious and social aspirations of the community members, the Foundation may in future purchase or receive by way of gift any property for the use of the community members.

Sabil ul-khair wal-Barakat is not only a voluntary donation but an important religious noble custom. The Foundation collects Sabil from community members, this donation is made by the community members as a continuing and on-going process. Circulars are also issued at times.

The Foundation will not only achieve its objectives directly, but may also promote any of its aims and objects through other charitable institutions.

What is the vision / strategy of the NL Foundation

To organize and manage the affairs of the Dawoodi Bohras residing in the Netherlands so as to preserve their religious beliefs, culture and tradition.

In doing so the Foundation shall be guided by the noble teachings of Islam that “Love for the land of abode is an essential part of the faith”  and “religion is not just prayer & fast but also the striving for betterment in this world and the hereafter”; and the teachings and  directions of His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS that they should strive for the betterment of their neighbors and for the common good of all the peoples of the Netherlands.

These Committees have been appointed by the Board of Management of Stichting Anjuman-e-Ezzi(The Netherlands) as per clause 9.4 of the Deed of Incorporation and will continue functioning under the supervision of the Board. Members of all the committees work voluntarily.

Classes are conducted over the week and on Saturday.
